Top 10 Governance Tips for SharePoint Success

    Wednesday, February 15, 2012

    12:00 pm Eastern Time

    11:00 am Central Time

    10:00 am Mountain Time

     9:00 am Pacific Time

    Seminar Description:

What is governance in relation to the SharePoint? Quite simply, governance is a small committee of professionals who set policies and standards that limit the flexibility and use of a computing environment. In the past, governance has been driven by the desire to reduce costs, improve system stability, ensure security and meet regulatory compliance requirements.

Often, governance teams have drifted from one side of the coin to the other: excessively stringent rules that basically remove any freedom from knowledgeable employees or giving free rein to any and all users, regardless of skill or knowledge levels. Finding a good balance is the key to truly functional governance. Every organization has unique goals, constraints and technology histories that have to be taken into account for creating an effective governance model. There are, however, common characteristics that describe effective governance no matter what form it takes.

These practices will help your organization achieve an effective, sustainable and well-balanced governance strategy. In this webinar, we will cover the top 10 tips for creating a governance plan for a successful SharePoint deployment.

Millennials Rising: Critical Success Factors for Leading and Empowering Generation Y

    Thursday, February 23, 2012

    12:00 pm Eastern Time

    11:00 am Central Time

    10:00 am Mountain Time

     9:00 am Pacific Time

    Seminar Description:

The newest generation to hit the workforce goes by many different names. The basic birth year bracket for this generation is 1982 – 1995 or 2000, depending on your source. The names include Generation Y, Millennial Generation, Generation Next, Net Generation, Echo Boomers and even the Peter Pan Generation.

Here is the kicker, this generation is HUGE and is needed to ensure continued economic growth. The Baby Boomer Generation is around 120M the X Generation is around 90M. We just don't have enough X Generation professionals to fill the leadership void being created by the Baby Boomer push to retirement. The Millenials will be quickly pushed into leadership positions over the next 10 years to fill this void.

This sounds much easier in writing than it is to actually do. This generation has a very specific demographic and motivation. In order to get the most out of your High Potential Millennials, you must have a detailed understanding of the characteristics of this generation and how best to support, motivate and lead this group to ensure they achieve their maximum potential.

In this 45 min web seminar, we will have two presenters. One is JT Moore, vice president of marketing at ASPE, Inc. JT is a Millennial in a leadership role. The other is David Mantica, president of ASPE Inc. with more than half of his team in the Millennial classification, David brings real-world experience on Millennial talent management.

JT and David will review and provide point / counter points on the following topics related to Millennial talent management:
    • Very detailed look at Millennial characteristics including pros, cons and dispelling certain stereotypes
    • Motivating Millennials in the work place, including issues on compensation, benefits, work/life balance
    • Critical success discussion around empowering Millennial success through task assignment and work empowerment
    • Finally a frank discussion of issues around discipline, corrective action, and feedback circles with Millennials

Whether you are a business analyst, project manager, IT manager or director, business manager or executive, you must understand how to properly drive the growth and development of your high-potential Millennials. Based on the significantly different characteristics of this generation, a detailed understanding is necessary for success. Or, as this generation is very willing to do, they will quickly leave and find something that does fit who they are.

    Seminar Presenter:

David Mantica - David Mantica has more than 16 years of experience in business to business continuing education in executive, product management, marketing, and operations capacities. He has product managed the initiation, development and delivery of more than 300 instructor-led and live, online training courses, covering topics in the software development life cycle, IT, telecommunications, finance, healthcare IT, and marketing industries. David was instrumental in the development and delivery of the training industry's first voice over IP (VOIP)-enabled live, instructor-led training course for public consumption, and chaired CompTIA's Learning Alliance formulation committee. He was on the boards of the DSLcon, Frame Relaycon, STP Conferences and Raleigh Latin School and is currently on the board of IIOM (International Institute of Outsourced Management).

Workflow Automation Capabilities in SharePoint 2010… Can you say InfoPath?

    Wednesday, March 7, 2012

    12:00 pm Eastern Time

    11:00 am Central Time

    10:00 am Mountain Time

     9:00 am Pacific Time

    Seminar Description:

Most businesses have processes relating to specific activities and typically, the steps of these processes are documented in repeatable procedures. A Workflow is an automated business process incorporating repeatable tasks, often performed in a specific order. Workflows provide an easy way to improve effectiveness by predefining the necessary steps and actions needed to complete tasks. And, workflows are flexible and can be reconfigured to meet the needs of an organization. Human error is eliminated, actions are consistent, responses can be tracked and user responsibility is minimized. Users can focus on doing day-to-day work instead of focusing on how the work needs to be done.

In this web seminar, we will discuss some common scenarios where SharePoint's workflow capabilities can be utilized to increase business productivity. We will discuss the multiple ways that workflows can be created, including using the built-in workflows, custom workflow creation in SharePoint Designer, using Visual Studio 2010, and the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

    Seminar Presenter:

Richard Stewart - Richard Stewart is a systems consultant and IT trainer based in Augusta, Georgia. He has more than 15 years of experience designing computer systems and network infrastructures for small business applications. He has been teaching technology since 1994. With extensive experience of the Microsoft Windows client and server platforms, Richard also has a working knowledge and understanding of the Macintosh and Linux operating systems. Currently, Richard serves as a senior consultant and trainer for The Mercury Professional Group, based in Charlotte, NC, and specializes in curriculum for SharePoint 2007 Administration, SharePoint for Project Management, and SharePoint 2007 Customization.

    Why SharePoint Needs Information Architecture

    Thursday, March 8, 2012

    12:00 pm Eastern Time

    11:00 am Central Time

    10:00 am Mountain Time

     9:00 am Pacific Time

    Seminar Description:

SharePoint is easy to deploy, can grow organically and exponentially, and can be administered by end users with little training. The result is that SharePoint environments are rarely built according to a deliberate plan, and often grow into an unmanageable collection of sites that have terabytes of poorly organized content—rendering the SharePoint environment little better than traditional share drives. The solution to this SharePoint mess is Information Architecture, and in this web seminar, we'll dig into how information architecture can make your SharePoint environment more effective by fostering improved content organization.

    Seminar Presenter:

Joe Shepley - ASPE's Joe Shepley is a strategy consulting professional living and working in Chicago. In his current position as vice president and practice leader at Doculabs, he focuses on helping organizations improve how they manage information using technology and processes.

SharePoint Designer vs. Development: When Designer is the better and easier choice?

    Wednesday, March 14, 2012

    12:00 pm Eastern Time

    11:00 am Central Time

    10:00 am Mountain Time

     9:00 am Pacific Time

    Seminar Description:

Developing for SharePoint can be very powerful. However, depending on what you are trying to accomplish, there are multiple tools that can be used. Typical SharePoint development is performed using Microsoft's .NET platform and can be coded in either C# or VB.NET in the Visual Studio 2010 IDE. But did you know that there is an easier way?

SharePoint Designer 2010 is the latest version of SharePoint Designer and has been rewritten from the ground up. Developers wishing to customize their SharePoint platform can utilize SharePoint Designer 2010 without needing to code at all. Using a WYSIWYG editor can easily modify SharePoint Workflows, all of the look and feel elements of your site, and your navigation. You also have the ability to customize web parts, web part views, and even work with external data such as SOAP web services, XML files, and external database connections.

In this web seminar, we will discuss the different scenarios for SharePoint development and which tool is best suited for which scenario. We will cover the capabilities and feature sets of each tool and why, in many cases, using SharePoint Designer is a much easier and more efficient choice for customizing SharePoint Server 2010.

    Seminar Presenter:

Mark Weinstein - ASPE's Mark Weinstein is a Microsoft and SharePoint expert with more than 30 years experience in the technology industry. He is the President and Principal Consultant for the Mercury Professional Group based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
