Although the name SharePoint Designer suggests that it is a tool exclusively for web designers, it is capable of doing quite a bit more. Perhaps a better name would be "SharePoint Management Studio," because SharePoint Designer 2010 is the perfect tool for managing your SharePoint sites. In addition to designing and managing SharePoint sites, SharePoint Designer 2010 can also be used to easily develop custom applications that run on top of the SharePoint Server framework using data from external sources, such as databases, web services, and XML files.
